2024 Senior Cork Captain – Molly Lynch

As we eagerly anticipate Cork’s defense of the O’Duffy Cup in 2024, we had the privilege of catching up with new Cork Captain Molly Lynch, to delve deeper into the essence of leadership both on and off the field, and uncover the secrets behind leading the All-Ireland champions back to glory.

Following a spectacular season of Camogie that culminated in Cork clinching the prestigious O’Duffy Cup, Molly Lynch added another feather to her cap with her club Sarsfields, as 2023 Cork and Munster Senior Champions.

How did you get into Camogie?

My Parents are very sporty so they brought me down to Sars when I was 5 and I’m playing camogie since then.

Who is the biggest influence on your Camogie Career?

My Parents. They are a brilliant support to me. They always offer great advice and travel the length of the country to support me at matches.

How do you feel about being made Cork Senior Camogie Captain?

It’s a great honour for my club, family and myself.

What qualities do you think Senior Cork Captain needs?

Teamwork, Leadership, Good Communication

What are you most looking forward to as Cork Captain?

Leading a great team onto the pitch.

What is the best part about being part of a team sport?

Definitely the friends you make. I’ve made friends for life through camogie and they make playing the sport so enjoyable.

What is the most challenging part balancing life with top tier Camogie?

It can get very busy and you could be out training 5/6 nights a week but being organised really helps when you a trying to balance it all.

Favourite Holiday Destination?

Kerry

What song is your most played currently?

Not a song but usually one of Sorcha McCartan’s playlists- she’s the team DJ!

Do have a favorite quote/motto?

It’s not about the mistake you make, it’s about how you react to the mistake.

Best Sporting achievement (so far)?

Winning the All Ireland Final with Cork last year and winning the Munster Club Final with Sars, I can’t pick between the two!

What are you most proud of?

All the hours spent at the hurling wall in Sars, it’s lovely to have medals to show for it.

If you could meet one person, alive or dead who would it be? and why.

Lando Norris, I’d love to know what a F1 driver.

Basketball

Team player, friendly, honest

What do you think is the most important factor for achieving success as a player in Camogie?

Hard work, having a Hurley in your hand everyday is really important.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give 12/13 year old Molly Lynch?

Never give up and enjoy playing camogie.
